Swell and wind-sea partitioning of HF radar directional spectra

چکیده

Partitioning is a process used to separate wind-sea and swell contributions in an ocean wave directional spectrum simplify, hence make more useful, the interpretation of for users data. HF radar systems can measure over regions coastal from coast 100 km offshore with good spatial temporal resolution depending on operating frequency bandwidth. Such hundreds spectra across field view radar, so there very strong motivation reduce dimensionality data set practical applications using partitioning. For similar reasons partitioning methods are increasingly being model satellite-measured spectra. A method, which extends method Waters J, Wyatt LR, Wolf Hines A. [2013. Data assimilation partitioned into Wavewatch III. Ocean Model. 72:17–31.] data, described, assessed buoy demonstrate variability both wind waves three regions. The results encouraging. could therefore provide useful satellite validations waters where measurements most challenged by wave-current interactions, topography bathymetry.

HF Radar Sea-echo from Shallow Water

HF radar systems are widely and routinely used for the measurement of ocean surface currents and waves. Analysis methods presently in use are based on the assumption of infinite water depth, and may therefore be inadequate close to shore where the radar echo is strongest. In this paper, we treat the situation when the radar echo is returned from ocean waves that interact with the ocean floor. S...

HF radar wave and wind measurement over the Eastern China Sea

HF radar can be employed to measure sea surface state parameters such as waveheight, wind field and surface current velocity. This paper describes the application of the high frequency ground wave radar in remote sensing the surface conditions over the Eastern China Sea in October, 2000. The radar, referred to as the OSMAR2000, was developed by Wuhan University. Preliminary wave spectra, wavehe...

Dynamical partitioning of directional ocean wave spectra

Directional wave spectra generally exhibit several peaks due to the coexistence of wind sea generated by local wind conditions and swells originating from distant weather systems. This paper proposes a new algorithm for partitioning such spectra and retrieving the various systems which compose a complex sea-state. It is based on a sequential Monte-Carlo algorithm which allows to follow the time...

Directional spectra of hurricane wind waves

[1] A comprehensive directional wave buoy data set showing the directional wave spectrum during the passage of a number of hurricanes is presented. The data confirm remote sensing measurements, showing that waves in the forward quadrants of the storm are dominated by swell radiating out from the intense wind regions to the right of the storm centre. The data show that for almost all quadrants o...

HF radar technology in the Sea of Okhotsk

In order to monitor variations in the Soya Warm Current (SWC), three high frequency (HF) radar stations were installed around the Soya Strait in August 2003. The radar covers a range of approximately 70 km from the coast. Comparisons of the observed current velocity with drifting buoy and shipboard ADCP data showed good agreement with root-mean-square differences of 20 cm/s. It is shown that th...
